Rescue Me ID: 14-12-22-00147Morgan (female)

Doberman Pinscher    Age: Young Adult

Morgan is a very sweet, playful, gentle girl. Approx 2-3 years old, and has not had a very easy life so far. But she wags her tail and looks to you to guide her to what you want and is happy to do what you ask. She is good with other dogs & did great with her cat test at the shelter. She was found as a stray & never reclaimed by her previous owner (good for her!) so now she is safe in rescue, ready to make up for lost time. If you are interested in adopting Morgan, email us at LoneStarDobermanRescue@gmail.com to request an application.

Doberman Pinscher Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

When I first got Chip, he was near death. Some of the pictures were taken when he was still recovering--you can see his coat is patchy. He is completely healthy now and has a beautiful full coat and the most handsome brown eyes. I'm not sure how old he is, but maybe 2-3 years. Chip is a wonderful, easy dog. He's a joy to have. I would keep him in a second but I have another male Doberman, Hank, who has serious dominance issues and can be dog aggressive. Chip absolutely loves to be petted. He will stand by me forever so long as I'm petting him. I am pretty sure he was a 100% outside dog in his prior life. He likes to roll in the grass. When ... (Read More)I first got him, I could tell he was not used to being in a house because he just was not sure what to do. However, he has adjusted quickly and loves being in the house with his people now, and is completely crate and potty trained. He has been absolutely perfect in his potty training even given that he lives with Hank who has a house marking problem. Chip has not had much training but he is a complete pleaser and he listens and does whatever you ask him to do. He comes immediately when called, no matter where he is. Despite having no training, he does not really have any bad behaviors--no digging, rarely tries to jump on people/furniture, no chewing on things, etc. Only exception is he will sometimes jump a wooden fence --will talk more about that below. Chip is a bit shy and timid meeting new people. I think because he did not have any attention or affection in his prior life. When I first got him, it seemed he had never even been petted (but he came to love it quickly!). He is learning really quickly that people, even new people, are good and he is getting more confident. Chip gets along fine with other dogs, but he is a bit cautious at first and extremely submissive. Due to Hank's behaviors (Hank really cannot be trusted around any dog) I keep Chip and Hank completely separate. However, I regularly take Chip to the dog park and he does great. Chip is playful and active but not super high energy. He would enjoy having a dog housemate large/small, male/female, etc. But he would be fine as an only dog also. Chip is non-reactive to other animals. He is not a chaser. He has seen cats, birds, squirrels, etc. and takes note but does not react at all beyond that. Chip is also a total water dog. He loves pools, puddles, water of any sort. You can see from the pictures (taken at the dog park) that whenever he finds water he tries to swim in it! I mentioned Chip will jump a wooden fence. He does this sometimes in my backyard. But he has never run off or even gone any further than my front yard. And he will immediately come back when called. I get the impression this is a habit he developed when he was young, and probably due to being left outside, alone, bored all day by his previous owner. In a home where he isn't left outside alone all day, I think his fence jumping habit will go away with time. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-12-07-00409Cooper (male)

Doberman Pinscher    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Cooper's story is like many of those in our rescue, Cooper has bounced around several different homes in his short two years of life. His first rescuer saved him when he was only eight months old. She found him what she thought was a forever home, but despite her best efforts Cooper wound up alone and hungry again. A month ago, Cooper wandered up to a new house looking for love. He stayed there for a while, tied up outside with little shelter and minimal amounts of food. Nobody came to claim him. This home wasn't the best for Cooper -- he was almost shot for chasing a family cat! Fortunately for him, one of the people living there decided ... (Read More)that this was not the life that he deserved, so she posted him on Craigslist. That is where we found him. When we met him, we knew that we couldn't leave him to endure another night in the cold. We are not sure what kind of life Cooper had after he was first adopted out, but we can guess it didn't include lots of toys, family walks, ample amounts of food and unconditional love - all the things he deserves! Cooper is now on the road to recovery. He is on a special diet to help him gain weight and has started his heart worm treatment. Surprisingly, he has otherwise been given a clean bill of health! Cooper is a two year old neutered red male Doberman who is good with other dogs (constantly licking his foster sisters!), crate trained, house trained and said to be good with children. He is a smaller boy who will weigh around 60-65lbs when he is back to his normal weight. Cooper is an extremely sweet boy despite all that he has been through. He loves to put his head in your lap for a nice long ear rub. He also loves to lie on the bed and chew on bones. He is very smart! Cooper has had a rough couple of years, but he is excited for what his future holds. He is looking forward to meeting his forever family who he will undoubtedly shower with constant love and friendship. *Cooper is located in Shreveport, Louisiana in a loving foster home. (Less)

Doberman Pinscher Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament

Papi is a sweetheart and is friendly to everyone, human and furbuddy he meets. He hasn't had any potty accidents and is learning my dog door. He also asks to be let outside with a small whine or a scratch on my back door. He is doing great with leash walking, stopped pulling on the first try, and enjoys pack walking with my dogs. He listens very well and is eager to please. He knows sit and 'leave it' and follows hand commands. Papi loves to curl up by your side or in a soft dog bed. He has some puppy energy to burn but naps a lot too. He has funny quirks including talking for attention, sliding across the floor on his belly, and a windmill ... (Read More)circle tail wag. He would do great with an active person or family that won't be gone too long, and can give him all the love and attention this sweet boy deserves. (Less)

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults

Judging from her breed, people that pass Lady on walks expect her to be a rather scary dog. After their kids climb all over her, it is clear to see that Lady is as gentle as can be. She is very lazy and incredibly loving. She know the basic bathroom, sit, lay, stand, shake, and hug commands. Lady has mastered playing dead- complete with making a hand gun and saying 'bang-bang'. Lady is exactly what her name cracks up to be- she's so polite, sweet, and calm while still being a protector when necessary.

10 days went by when a rescuer finally caught Scout in the parking lot of a Dollar General store. Four weeks later, Scout is crate trained, house trained and gets along with all the dogs in his foster home. He is learning to like people, and each week shows progress in greeting and accepting new visitors to his home. Scout is active, athletic and would love a home with a dog-buddy that would match his energy. Currently, Scout weighs 39lbs. He appears to be 11 months and has lots of puppy energy needing direction. So far he has been easy to train and anxious to please.

Doberman Pinschers were first bred by a German tax collector named Louis Doberman. Dobermans cannot work in areas where it gets very cold in the winter.
