Rescue Me ID: 16-02-04-00743Coach (male)

Doberman Pinscher Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Female Dogs Only
Health: Vaccinations Current

Coach is all wiggly happy and full of excitement!!! He made his way to a high kill shelter when the police confiscated multiple dogs in cages outside with no food or water, covered in their own feces and urine. Coach is ready to move on!! He is a doofus meeting other dogs but his intent is friendly. Would do well with a solid female in the home to show him the play ropes. Coach is a big, strong guy, so it'd be best for him to go to a home without small kids. He was squirmy with handling feet, body and teeth. Fine with a hug. A little snatchy taking treats because his mouth is so big and he's pretty enthusiastic. Enjoyed playing with his toy ... (Read More)and let's you take it from him, ate faster during his food bowl test. He is a Court Case Dog, evaluated by a professional dog trainer and comes with free in-home training if needed. Doberman Pinscher    Age: Puppy

Health: Vaccinations Current

Freya is a 1-year-old mama that was found running stray with Leyna in Kansas City. Freya gave birth the night (Jan 8th) before the transport with Leyna up to us, so she had to hang back until everyone was stable for the transport. Freya and her puppies are now with us. Freya will be up for adoption after she's done whelping them, but inquires can be made now. Once the puppies are ready to be adopted, we will post them. Email dobes@ILDobeRescue.com. Doberman Pinscher Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Pal's Place would like to introduce you to one of our newest rescues, Gage. He's a gorgeous 2 year old male Doberman mix, possibly with Vizsla. He was rescued from a high kill shelter in Kentucky with his mother, Gale (recently adopted!) and his brother Gadget. He's bashful when meeting new people, but warms up very quickly. Gage and Gadget are bonded and have been together their whole lives, we would really like them to be adopted together. They are very calm, easy-going and quiet dogs. They are appreciative of any attention and love they receive. We don't know what kind of life they had before now but it seems like it has not been an easy ... (Read More)one. There won't be a day there will go by, that they wouldn't show their family how grateful they are.     Meet Gadget (tricolor), an adorable, sweet and silly 2 year old male Doberman mix. His mom and brother look like they could have Vizsla in them, but Gadget looks the most like a Doberman. He can be a little shy at first, but is the most outgoing of the dogs in this little family. He was rescued from a high kill shelter in Kentucky with his mother, Gale (recently adopted!) and his brother Gage (red). Gadget and his brother are so very sweet! Rescue Me ID: 16-01-24-00447Thin White Duke (male)

Doberman Pinscher    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Thin White Duke is a beautiful young 2-year-old albino boy but please educate yourself on albino Dobermans and read his entire bio before deciding he's the one for you. (http://www.dpca.org/albino/albino_about.htm) Duke came to us when his owners had some changes in their life and could no longer care for him or his lady friend Baby Jane (also available for adoption). He loves attention and setting his head on your lap for some snuggles, but only when you're his trusted person. He is slow with making human friends and is leery of strangers. He needs time and space to warm up and his limited sight (due to his albinism) isn't doing him any ... (Read More)favors. He is very playful with the resident Dobermans but may be too much energy for smaller canine friends. He is too interested in felines to be deemed a safe companion. He is a happy boy who enjoys lots of exercise so we would prefer he finds a home with a securely fenced yard. He is a big guy at 77 pounds and can afford to gain some weight. He has limited training so an obedience deposit is required to ensure his success. We expect him to be fine in a home with older teenagers and adults only, as unexpected shadows and movement may frighten him. Email dobes@ILDobeRescue.com. Rescue Me ID: 16-01-24-00221Heather (female)

Doberman Pinscher    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Heather is just the cutest petite 4.5-year-old (DOB 6.24.11) and 41-pound fawn gal that was surrendered to a southern Illinois high volume shelter. For being so young, she is quite calm but doesn't seem to have had any training. As a typical Doberman, she prefers to be closest to you so you can keep a petting hand on her as much as possible. Heather just arrived at her foster home and is settling in nicely. She seems good with other dogs after slow intros, as she's met the resident dog. We would say no to cats as she appears to be too interested in them. She has no history with children but she may be fine with those 10 and up due to her ... (Read More)calm manner. Rescue Me ID: 16-01-23-00355Comrade (male)

Doberman Pinscher    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Comrade is a 6-year-old and 85-pound red boy that was reluctantly surrendered to us when his family had to move from a spacious home with acres of land for him to run on to a tiny apartment. They, wisely, reached out to us in hopes we can find a better home for Comrade. Here is some information that his owners provided to us: He has been to three behavioral classes for training (part of 4-H project for our daughter). He is housebroken and has run of the house except bathrooms and we have a self-locking garbage can so he cannot eat the garbage. He is very good at cleaning the floor of spills and food dropped, and will clean the counter if you ... (Read More)leave something on it. He only sits on the couch downstairs (as he is allowed), although he would be happy to sit anywhere. He has his own raised bed and blanket he sleeps with. He likes to run and would require either a fence or invisible fenced yard. We have 2 acres of invisible fencing, he has been trained as to the limits of the yard (very easily done with flags) and he has never left the yard. He likes other dogs (all sizes) when we has been introduced, but does not like cats or other animals. He likes to chase balls, but does not like to give them back, but we have been working on 'drop' when he comes back. He likes to ride in a car, but prefers to help you drive, so he needs more encouragement to either sit or lie down in the seat.' He should be fine in a home with children 10 and up. He will do best in a home with a fenced in yard or an invisible fence (since he's been trained on one before). Email dobes@ILDobeRescue.com. Rescue Me ID: 16-01-22-00585Nixa-Rayne (female)

Doberman Pinscher    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Nixa-Rayne is a 9-year-old (DOB 11/18/2006) albino Dobe, who we named after the town in Missouri where she was found stray. She was in rough shape, so we were relieved when no one came to animal control looking for her. We found a microchip, but it was registered to a person who died in a car accident in another state many years ago, and it did not lead to a current owner. A microchip is only good if you keep the info on it current. However, by researching her chip, we learned her name was originally Rayne, and she does respond to it. Despite her past, she is now in a loving foster home, and we are getting to know her better. She will be ... (Read More)with us for a few more weeks while she gets some medical done. At her recent spay at our vet, the doctor became concerned about some small mammary lumps discovered later, so she will have those removed in a couple of weeks once she recovers from her first surgery. She also had a couple of minor surface lumps and bumps removed and a teeth cleaning. On top of all of that, Nixa-Rayne also has a very common lick granuloma on her hind left leg that needs oral and topical meds, a cone, and time to heal. She quickly let us know she is not a fan of cats, and she barks at some dogs that she sees on her walks. She has no known history with kids. Nixa-Rayne seems pretty easy and quiet so far in her home, but she gets nervous and pants in the car for rides to the vet, and she could use some manners on the leash. She seems to be housebroken, so she has that going for her! Like most albino Dobes, she has trouble seeing if the light isn't just right, so she'd do best with a home that understands the needs of an albino Dobe. If you think you are the best match for Nixa-Rayne, please email dobes@ILDobeRescue.com. Rescue Me ID: 16-01-17-00156Jersey (Referral) (male)

Doberman Pinscher Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Jersey is a 2-year-old Doberman/Bulldog-mix who was was abandoned in a shelter's parking lot by an inexperienced family that no longer wished to care for her. They didn't realize that owning a young active dog would require training, so instead of working with her, they gave up on her. She is a nice young girl with playful energy. She has some house manners and basic obedience, but she would benefit from a loving family who understands how to properly interact with a dog. She is currently at the shelter where she was left, and she does not like it there. It's too noisy and stressful for her, and she is becoming more anxious with each passing ... (Read More)day. Rescue Me ID: 16-01-17-00154Kenpo (Referral) (female)

Doberman Pinscher Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

I rescued Kenpo at the '11th Hour'. I monitored Facebook closely, hoping another rescue or adopter would step up, but they did not. So finally I resigned myself to saving her. I had no money; and too many dogs that I had committed to, but I couldn't let her die. So, with the help of many volunteers, including a foster, we rescued her. She had a very bad upper respiratory infection and had to be brought immediately to the vet where she remained overnight. The plan was for her to remain at the vet and the foster would bring her home at the end of the week. Needless to say, it was going to be an expensive vet bill. To 'complicate' things more, ... (Read More)we found out that she was pregnant and very far along and we did not have a foster for a pregnant dog, which would be a minimum of 2.5-3 months. But luckily it all worked out. Kenpo gave birth to 9 puppies on February 22, 2015 and she and her puppies will be available for adoption at the end of April/early May. Please consider giving this beautiful, sweet girl a home after her puppies are adopted. Kenpo or 'Kimmy' as her foster mom calls her, is about 1 year old and weighs 75 pounds. She is really calm and good on leash. As you can see in the photos, she is great with children, too - well mannered and exceptionally gentle. She is playful, loving and just an wonderful and awesome dog who deserves so much more than she's been given in life. Kenpo should be the only dog in the home as she does not like to share her humans with other critters :) Below is a video of Kenpo from Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=923667354340366 If you'd like to meet Kenpo when she arrives, please complete an application & be sure to mention her name! http://ehrdogs.rescuegroups.org/animals/detail?AnimalID=8208084 Email tammy.probst.smith@gmail.com ***Referrals are courtesy posts for animals at other locations. Rescue Me ID: 16-01-16-00225Oso (Referral) (male)

Doberman Pinscher Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Oso is a 9-year-old male black/red Doberman-Chow Chow mix (or so we believe) at around 75# who has been with us since he was 11 months old. We rescued Oso when we were single and childless and have since added 4 very active children to our lives. Oso loves these kids so much that he won't let anyone near them that he's not familiar with, thus why we feel the need to re-home him to someone experienced with large dogs (the kids really would like to have friends over now and then). Oso is housebroken, listens very well, knows sit, down, come, and get-in-your-bed. He is smart, attentive, playful, and very fit. Oso has quite a lot of energy ... (Read More)(especially since he's a senior boy) but a couple of good walks a day or some time playing ball in the yard and he'll happily nap the rest of the day away. He is your typical velcro dobe, but does very well while we are away at work. He loves to be with his people and is content with being petted with his head in your lap or cuddling with you on the couch. He is always glad to see you, even if you just went out for 5 minutes. He has not had any accidents in all the time he's been with us. He does tend to counter surf and trash-dive if given the opportunity. He's doing very well with a citronella collar with remote to help deter the behavior. He's very content with a tennis ball, chew bone, or other toy to keep him occupied during the day. If you ask him where his ball his, he'll run and get it, ready to play fetch and catch! He loves to swim as well. He currently lives with a female dog who is smaller and much older. She rules the roost so we'd highly recommend another large dominant-type dog in the home. He does quite well when boarded or in daycare with other large, playful dogs. We wouldn't recommend other small animals (ferret, hamster, etc.) as he has a very high prey drive. Oso is currently on a raw diet and has a beautiful coat and bright eyes - you'd likely never know he's a senior. Everyone who meets him says how 'magnificent' and 'beautiful' he is. He also receives a glucosamine/chondroitin supplement to combat any early arthritis. He was abandoned to a rescue at 11 mos with a fracture of the right hip, when we rescued him. He only shows signs of wear and tear on that hip after a long run (30-60 mins+). He also rides well in the car, walks nicely on his leash, and does well with bathing/grooming. He's quick to alert us if someone is at the door, but isn't a barker otherwise. Oso would do best with someone who is home more than away. He would make a great companion for a retired couple or a stay-at-/work-from-home mom/dad (of older kids). Due to his highly protective nature, he should not be in a home with young children. He has a major issue with our mail lady and nipped her arm at our door recently. In a house with adults, this wouldn't be an issue, as his protective nature has come on strong only since the kids have come along. He is neutered, microchipped, heartworm-negative, and current on his vaccines. He will arrive to your home with his crate, toys, bed, food, supplements, and a small stipend to cover his adoption costs. Rescue Me ID: 16-01-15-00617Maggie Mae (female)

Doberman Pinscher    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Maggie Mae is a 5-year-old and 90-pound fawn gal that was surrendered to us because her owner couldn't take care of her any longer. She has excellent manners! She doesn't jump up and she even stays off the furniture. She will happily lie right at your feet or blissfully lay her head on your lap. She is her foster mom's shadow - never go to the bathroom alone again! She is loyal and sweet and will follow you from room to room. Maggie Mae previously lived with a puppy and did fine, but she's not a fan of cats. She is doing great with her foster siblings: a senior Bulldog-mix and two adult Dobermans. She enjoys some playtime but a dog with ... (Read More)endless energy might annoy her. Maggie Mae knows a few commands such as sit, stay, and come. She walks nicely on a leash and is an excellent passenger in the car. She crates willingly and quietly and is non-destructive of her fluffy blankets and dog bed. She also likes to play fetch. Rescue Me ID: 16-01-15-00613Ashley (female)

Doberman Pinscher    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Ashley is a 2-year-old and 55-pound blue girl that came to us from a shelter in the south. She was originally found as a stray. She is a real sweetheart, very affectionate, happy-go-lucky kind of girl, and does the typical Dober-lean when you are petting her. If you are looking for a girl that loves to cuddle, Ashley is for you. She will even sit on your lap if you let her. She loves being around her human, the typical 'velco' Dobe, and will follow you every where, even to the bathroom! She is very eagar to please, very smart and is very treat oriented, so training will be a breeze. She does need to learn some manners, typical of a young ... (Read More)dobe that hasn't had any formal training, so an obedience class will be required. She rides great in the car, tethered of course otherwise she would probably try to sit on your lap. She is good with other dogs, both big and small, but will require a slow introduction to ensure success with a dog companion. She perfers to eat alone, without other dogs around, also typical of a stray as they feel another dog may want to take their food. However, she was fine with her foster mom handling her food while she ate. Ashley is on the thin side right now and needs to gain about 10 pounds, but staying on a healthy diet will fix that up in no time. She has a beautiful blue coat, and eyes that will steal your heart when you look into them. She is fine with kids, but she might run over a small child trying to get where she wants to go, so it is recommended that she be place with children over 10. Doberman Pinscher    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Health: Vaccinations Current

Marlin is a 5-month-old red Doberman puppy who was dropped off at a Chicago area shelter with his brother and sister (adopted). He clearly has some skin issues, and IDR+ is working on getting him into tip-top shape. He is your typical high energy Doberboy that loves to play. He also has the velcro gene, loves to follow you through the house and be right next to you during down time. He gets along with other dogs and cats and really loves having another dog to play with and cuddle up for nap time. Marlin is not fearful when it comes to strangers, but prefers his known trusted people so Wal Mart greeter is not on his resume. He loves to do ... If you are looking for a dog to compete in any sports, he has a wonderful personality and easy going attitude that will make training fun. Rescue Me ID: 16-01-15-00245Sadie (female)

Doberman Pinscher    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Sadie is in our Guardian Angel program, and her adoption fee is sponsored! Sadie is a very sweet girl that was picked up as a stray, and when her owner was found, she was unable to take Sadie back because she was in hospice for cancer. The family was not able to take this poor girl in. Unfortunately, Sadie has also been diagnosed with some of her own serious health issues, but we are hoping someone will take her into their home and give her a forever home. You can see by the video that Sadie walks with a limp. She has old tears in both ACLs that have caused arthritis. If they had been repaired years ago, she would be in better shape now. ... (Read More)When our vet was assessing her for knee surgery, he noticed that her heart didn't sound right, so he referred us to a cardiologist for a $500 echocardiogram. Unfortunately, the cardiologist diagnosed her with the beginning stages of DCM, which is very common among Dobes. Since Sadie has been living with her knee issues for so long and coping well, he doesn't recommend we put her through the two ACL surgeries and subsequent months of rest and recovery since there are no time guarantees with the cardio. Fortunately, the cardiologist did not put Sadie on any cardio meds at this point. She could live happily like this for years. This 7-year-old, 76-pound beauty loves to give high fives and get loving pets and affection. Since arriving in her foster home, she has met the other dogs behind a gate. She has been fine around them, but honestly would rather be an only dog. She does not need to be crated as she does not chew and is housebroken. She is perfect in the car. If you live in a home with few stairs, Sadie would like you to consider adopting her. She is very cuddly and loving, and she loves to lie in the sun. When we took her photos, she wanted to lean up against us and just feel loved and secure. She has no history with cats, but we do not believe she could live them due to the prey drive we see. Although her temperament is wonderful, we prefer to place her with kids 10 and up due to her knees. If you have an extra hand to pet this sweet girl, please email dobes@ILDobeRescue.com More info and photos: http://www.ildoberescue.com/dobermans/sadie/ To apply to adopt: http://www.ildoberescue.com/adopt (Less)

lnteresting Doberman Pinscher Trivia Low-Cost Illinois Spay & Neuter Clinics
Doberman Pinschers were first bred by a German tax collector named Louis Doberman. Dobermans are a relatively new breed dating only to the 1860s. Dobermans cannot work in areas where it gets very cold in the winter. White Dobermans share a gene with white tigers and white lions. In rare cases, Dobermans can develop Dancing Dobermans disease, a type of peripheral neuropathy.
