|Animal ID: 5095Rowlf (male)|
Rowlf will turn two years old this month and he weighs about 57 lbs. Rowlf was born into OPH and so we know his mother is part Labrador Retriever. We believe he also may be part Doberman. Rowlf has been through a lot in his short life and at some point had to fend for himself to survive. OPH wants to be doubly sure to find the perfect fit for him this time around: someone who would understand that love as well as patience, structure and boundaries are important for this boy. He is super well behaved in a lot of ways, but is willful and stubborn if you let him think he's the boss. So he'll need a strong leader to bring out his best. Training will be a great way to demonstrate your leadership and get to know each other. He already knows the commands, so it will be easy and fun. - friendly with people (big and small) he's met with his foster family in the home and on the go. He does have a tendency to jump up to say hello that you'll want to watch. - has lots of energy, is a bit quirky, and can get over excited: so he's not a good match for a home with small children - learning it's OK to be lazy sometimes - knows basic commands - super smart - rides well in a car - well behaved in public - crate trained - housebroken - loves training treats and is highly food motivated - he walks well on the leash (we use a prong collar) - well-behaved in the home, interested in what's on the table and counters so may need a little watching, but he hasn't gotten in to anything nor has he gotten on the furniture - good with most other dogs and he loves to play; he doesn't always know when to stop playing so he will need a bit of oversight there; he loves to hang out with his foster family's dog (a two-year old female) and they are the best of friends - he very much wants to catch his foster family's cat, so he needs a home without them. That said, with a good handler on the leash during walks he has walked by cats and donkeys, and sniffed noses with horses without an issue. (Less)

Doberman Pinscher Dogs can make good pets in D.C. if they match your IifestyIe. The Doberman Pinscher is a powerful guard dog. Dobermans are protective, but are not vicious dogs; their reputation for aggression is undeserved. Doberman Pinschers that are properly trained and socialized are very gentle family companions.
